Annual Letter 2023

DCS Annual Letter - 2023

Dear Deadwood Creek Services Supporters,

As we reflect on the past year, we're thrilled to share the milestones that have shaped our community. Your unwavering support has been instrumental, and we're excited to update you on a few highlights.

Public Internet Pilot Project - Early Spring:

Recognizing the growing need for connectivity, we implemented public internet access at the Community Center as a pilot project, hoping to create a central hub for online activities, research, and communication. Your feedback, crucial for shaping its future, will be sought to determine continuation in 2024 and voting will take place at the Annual Meeting on January 5th, 2024.

Bylaws Update - Late Spring:

In response to our evolving community, the Bylaws and governing documents underwent a comprehensive review, ensuring relevance and alignment with changing community needs. Find them on our website at: www.deadwoodcreekservices.org/board-documents

Playground Construction - July:

Quote from Playground Impact Survey: “My son loves it - he recently had a school project about his favorite place & wrote that it was the community center because it had a playground and KIDS!”

The completion of the playground project in July enhances our capacity to connect across generations and provides a welcoming space for families and children. It has significantly increased the presence of young people at the Center and the use of the Center overall.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who have contributed to this project over the multiple years and wide community engagement that it took for this to be completed!

Deadwood Oral History Project - Fully Funded:

In a beautiful show of community support, the Deadwood Oral History Project received full funding (nearly $8000) over the summer via generous grants and donations.

The oral history project will capture the experiences, insights, and memories of our residents, creating a valuable archive that will be cherished by future generations. Interviews with residents are underway and we're thrilled to provide more updates as the project progresses.

Challenges and Increased Monthly Costs:

Increased center use has brought higher costs for supplies and utilities, necessitating additional resources and cleaning efforts from our dedicated team.

A full report will be available at the Annual Meeting, but here are a few financial changes we’ve seen - both good and bad!

Rising Cost of Insurance: $1615 for 2023 - expected to increase in 2024

Increased Income from Center Rentals: $750* - compared to $40 in 2022

Consistent Cost of Maintenance, Cleaning and Supplies: $1231* compared to $1461 in 2022.

Total Grant Funding Received in 2023: $36,825*
